On Wednesday December 1, around 3 pm Odonel Caty the driver of a black 2015 Dodge Ram pick-up truck was exiting a business near the 3100 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue in Oakland Park.
As Caty exited the parking lot onto Oakland Park Boulevard heading in a westward direction, the pedestrian began walking eastbound on the sidewalk and crossed into Caty’s vehicle’s path. Caty’s Dodge Ram hit the victim. The victim fell on the ground and the truck ran him over.
When BSO arrived on the scene Caty cooperated fully with them. Oakland Park Fire Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the untimely death of the pedestrian. Detectives have said that excessive speed is not considered to be a factor in this crash.
