New Commissioners Are Sworn into the Oakland Park City Commission

At the beginning of the City Commission meeting on Wednesday November 30, 2022 the  City of Oakland Park held a Swearing-In Ceremony its two Commissioners, Steven R. Arnst and Tim Lonergan. The two new commissioners took Oath of Office, but not for the first time! Both Commissioners have served on previous City Commissions and bring a wealth of experience to the dais.

Commissioner Arnst served consecutively twice from 1993 to 2001 and 2003 to 2011, for a total of 16 years. Commissioner Lonergan served two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2020, for a total of eight years. Both Commissioners will serve a four-year at-large term through November 2026, although when the election ended, nearly a month ago, a close tally triggered a recount for the second seat, which Arnst won by a mere 39 votes.

Lonergan and Arnst Honored to Service the Residents of Oakland Park

At the ceremony, both expressed their sincere thanks for being honored with the opportunity to serve the residents of Oakland Park again.

“I’m grateful the residents of Oakland Park put their trust in me to help run the city,” Commissioner Arnst said. “I promise them, I won’t let them down, and I will give them good government at a fair price,” Arnst conveyed.

Commissioner Lonergan also expressed appreciation for Oakland Park voters. “I am thankful to the residents for another opportunity to serve this wonderful and diverse community on the City Commission,” Lonergan said. “Oakland Park has an exciting array of initiatives underway that I look forward to seeing through to completion. I am ready to get to work,” Lonergan concluded.

It Is a New Dais for the City Commission

Arnst and Lonergan join recently sworn in Oakland Park Mayor Aisha Gordon and Vice Mayor Mitch Rosenwald, as well as Commissioner Matthew Sparks. The addition of the two new Commissioners makes it a whole new dais for the City Commission.
