Since the outbreak of COVID-19 early this year, the entire world has held its breath for a vaccine. After 10 long months, the vaccine has arrived in the United States and now South Florida. According to a Oakland Park Mayor, Jane Bolin, the City of Oakland Park has been invited to participate in the cooperative effort to distribute the vaccine here in Broward County. Distribution is slated to begin early next week.
Bolin shared with Living In Oakland Park that the City Oakland Park will be working in cooperation with the cities of Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and Wilton Manors at the vaccination site in Holiday Park. The Department of Health along with a contract agency will run the site and dispense the vaccines.
Bolin further explains that Oakland Park Fire Rescue will be staffing a vehicle in case there are any medical emergencies at the site.
Only individuals that are 65 years and older who have preregistered at the Department of Health website at www.browardcovidvaccine.com” will have the vaccine administered.
The plans for distribution of the vaccine should be finalized by tomorrow. At that point the portal, on the above mentioned website, will be open for appointments. According to Mayor Bolin, the actual dispensing of vaccines will begin early next week.
The site itself will be open Tuesdays thru Saturdays, from approximately 8am to 4pm. Mayor Bolin, noted that “We will provide additional information as it becomes available”.
While we have waited for a long time for the vaccine, Mayor Bolin, reminds residents that the dispensation of the vaccine is just beginning and she advises residents to continue to follow safety precautions.
"We encourage all of our residents to wear masks and social distance. Although vaccinations are beginning it will take time to administer and some may choose not to participate. The only way to stay safe is to continue personal diligence and responsibility".
