The City of Oakland Park hosted a successful parade for Northeast High School’s graduating class of 2020. Despite national social unrest, protests all around the country, and COVID-19, the city was able to celebrate its Seniors without a hitch! On Thursday, June 4th a little rain came down but that did not stop dozens of supporters from lining up on N.W. 56th Street to watch the parade and congratulate the latest graduating Hurricanes.

Community Attendance Despite the Rain

Decorated cars with seniors inside took the route to N.E. 6th Avenue, and circled back around. In attendance were several community leaders such as Vice Mayor Jane Bolin, Chris Casale from the Parks and Recreation Department, proud parents and school staff, and members of The Oakland Park Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.

Riding with Senior Class President

Mayor Matthew Sparks brought his classic Mustang into the parade cruising the route with Senior Class President Kaitlyn Hebb.

Mayor Sparks also procured class of 2020 license plates for each senior that resides within the city as a commemorative gift which will no doubt be a very memorable year for graduating seniors.

Congratulations to the Graduating Class of Northeast High School 2020. We are extremely proud of your amazing ability to adapt ad excel during these unprecedented times. Today we celebrate all of you and send you on your path to great success with all your wishes. That whatever you wish to dream, you achieve! We will always be here in Oakland Park cheering you on.
